Tropical Tower Wars revive

Post by FlaMeBeRg on 15/1/2014, 20:09

Hi

Just for interest sake I opened this thread to check how many people would play TTW again if DotA 2 gets custom maps or even if this custom map could become a standalone how many of the community will switch over to this?

I am asking this only as staff on the website and as a beta tester for the map I have spoken to H3ka about it quickly but it's still not announced that this will be made.

Please just tell me what you guys think because I personally miss playing this and he WC3 community sucks now

Thanks
FlaMe

I did not quite understand what you wanted to expose,
because of this I have a question: Have you considered if TTW will be included in Dota 2?
WC3 is a very old play, many players consider it, but very few want to toy on TTW inclusion in another game.
for me there is no point where it will be included TTW, I know I will still have the same meaning, but I will feel happy for graphics and other new models.

Most of the WC3 community switched to DotA 2 now because they played DotA alot, the custom maps were mostly there to fool around when bored.

I want to play this again but the "new" community doesn't know it and it will take some time to get them on track but they won't be any challenge for the older TTW players.

Myself and some friends used to play TTW a lot and even played Tournaments on our local WC3 server back in the day, but not many people are still interested in it any more because of graphics and so many people hacking on any maps lately.

TTW is a very fun map and can actually keep you busy without boring you all the time it's something to enjoy when you're in the mood for some thinking.

Personally myself and some friends will play this IF it went on

You have to understand, that hack is TTW bug, here are guilty only administrators, I do not blame that because their are much better versions of TTW. they have to deal with more than fixing bugs. currently do not have problems with TTW games, often playing games with strong players worthy. Garena community, the group opened a bot http://w3game.ru/ TTW, working non-stop and TTW is alive.
el3geeb expect to tell us about his plan TTW

Overall the internet in RSA is really bad so we can't just play on Garena as we want to as we get packet loss some days up to 50% and pings of 250 can become very bad in TTW when you are trying to juggle

Sup Flameberg :3 Tis, I, Hodge Excited

I'm pretty sure that H3ka will do his best to get TTW into the custom Dota 2 maps. He and I still love the hell out of TTW and are (were) staff for a reason Tongue.

A while back I tried to create a SC2 TTW at some point (holy shit that editor >_< ) and I know H3ka has plans for a stand alone TTW and may even be working on it.

I can't say much for leafy, seeing as I've never met him, but I'm pretty sure he has plans for TTW too, and is most probably working alongside H3ka to make the stand alone and will probably work on the Dota 2 version as well.

As to D3z, I'm not sure, man :/I haven't seen him around on here for a damn long time, but H3ka did say something about him and a Facebook TTW or something of that nature?

Hey guys Excited

I was considering a Starcraft 2 version of TTW, but I simply do not have the time to commit to it. I don't know what sort of system Valve plan on implementing for custom maps or content editors, but my limited experience with Source is a nightmare of bugs. The SC2 engine itself eliminates most of the mechanics bugs in TTW already, so it would be a pretty smooth transition (in theory). If one of the staff are making a new version (on whichever platform), I would not be able to contribute much to the coding, but I would love to be in charge of (or involved in) designing new content and controlling the balance aspect (which I feel is my specialty).

H3ka and D3z have both mentioned other platforms and standalone versions, but I can't comment on progress. Somebody I met via facebook was working on a browser based TTW game (to avoid confusion, this was not mentioned to me as a Facebook game, it was just spoken about ON Facebook, though perhaps D3z and H3ka have made other plans)

If I am to be brutally honest, I think TTW on SC2 is a dead end. There are too few people that play SC2 (compared to alternatives), it is not free-to-play and generally I think it's too much work for too little output.

I am very excited about a Dota2 custom map editor. Depending on how flexible it is, I'd put in as much effort as I can to bring it to life. I'd be learning the editor from scratch, so you can join if you want Leafy Laugh. D3z may also want to, depending how his workload is. Dota2 is free and a fair sized TTW community moved over to Dota2 so I'm sure the player base will have a good starting size.

I will be putting my standalone on halt (had about 3/5 of the functionality working) until I know what can and can't be done with the Dota2 editor.

I will beta test that any day just notify Excited

H3ka why stop the standalone, it would be better if it was a game on it's own Tongue

Or you can check how the community likes it and think about the DotA 2 custom map if the standalone doesn't do well enough.

You can even put in some benefits and something cool to buy stuff on a TTW store to get some extra money in and get servers up if that's the case

Eh, LoL isn't that bad. The community is cancerous as f*** though :/Literally asked one question, "what's the meta on this hero", as you do when you start playing a new hero in a moba, and got flamed out by a bunch of angry 12 year olds who had a point to prove.

Anyways, back on to topic. I think H3ka doesn't want to invest a shit load of his time and energy into creating a standalone engine if he could simply just piggyback on the Steam engine. Also, the graphics... Hahahahaha! f***, creating all the graphics and shit would be a damned nightmare, I can imagine. Then also sound and all those wonderful things. It's just easier and less demanding of time to piggyback on another platform.

ALTHOUGH, knowing H3ka, a standaone will be developed (at some point) anyways because he's a stubborn bastard who enjoys making games. Smile<3

You people doubt ME?...Heresy I say! Excited

On a serious note, I always have and (atleast for the foreseeable future) always will, tell everybody that ONE day I will get round to making a standalone TTW. Nobody wanted to make a facebook game out of it, they just thought doing it in WebGL would be cool (which I dont *necessarily* disagree with).

Yes people tried to make it in SC2, yes people want to make it in Dota 2. No I don't think either of those will work/be a good idea. Thats probably just because I have some kind of sentimental connection to WC3 being the game with custom maps and I feel like dota 2 getting custom maps would be lame and would ruin dota 2. I also don't think the whole "custom maps" thing will work all that well outside of an RTS (if for nothing else, then for the lack of all the art resources that games like wc3 have already).

I really feel that only a well-done standalone product can do TTW the justice it deserves, although I do realise that running such a project as a standalone has a whole lot of problems that are solved by making it as a custom map (e.g for dota2)

We basically Necro'd the Forum... My belief is that TTW as a Warcraft 3 map is effectively dead. We've seen that there are attempts to design and build standalone versions and revive the community, but at the moment that community is dead and so is the game.

If maps are updated, it would be more popular. Imho. Straight Version 5.50 needs some correction, but it is not present.  Sad

Of course, but the demand for a new map is too little to warrant the time and effort put into making the next version. We shall wait for the standalones though. H3ka has some pretty cool ideas Smile
